Many Toronto homeowners consider garage doors as a purely functional item but if you want to maximize the curb appeal of your property, it is wise to spend some time considering the different styles and colors in which custom garage doors are available. Whether you live in the middle of the city or in a more distant part of the GTA, the doors you fit in your garage could significantly improve the appearance of the exterior of your home. For some ideas on how to pick the perfect doors for your property, see below.
The best type and color of doors for your Toronto home will depend on what type of property it is and how you have chosen to decorate the exterior so far. In the area where we are based – Vaughan – we see a wide variety of exterior decors in different parts of the city but many people do not seem to have capitalized on the equally wide variety of custom garage doors that are available nowadays, to improve the curb appeal of their properties. Below, are some facts to consider when choosing your new doors.
• Property Style – The first and most important consideration, as far as we are concerned at least, is what type of property you live in. For brick-built detached homes with mullioned windows, such as those that can be found in many parts of Richmond Hill and other nearby suburbs, a fiberglass or cedar overlay carriage door is an excellent choice. The style of such doors matches this type of property very well and if you are ordering a custom unit, you can choose a color that complements your home perfectly. If you live in a more modern style of home, featuring large picture windows and aluminum-framed windows, glass garage doors could be a much better fit for your property.
• Colour of Exterior Surfaces – Natural brick and stone exteriors, with no plastering, tend to go best with garage doors that are constructed from natural materials, or at least those that are made to look as if they are constructed from natural materials. However, plastered exterior walls that have been painted in unusual colors will look better when matched with a custom door of a similar, or complementary, color.
• Location – Modern garage doors, such as those that are made from glass with anodized aluminum frames, are an excellent choice for contemporary homes in city center locations. In more rural areas, where traditional properties tend to dominate the landscape, a more traditional style of door such as an Edwardian or Victorian paneled wood model, will probably be a better option. However, if you live in an ultra-modern property that just happens to be located a little further out than most such homes, there is of course no reason why you should have to stick with these guidelines.
In reality, you need to consider all of the above factors together, not in isolation. The style, exterior colors, and location of your property will all come into play when you are making your choice.
